Humanities
The aim of teaching humanities at St Aloysius Primary School is to promote the understanding and stimulate interest of the world and of the people who lived here in the past. Our hope is that the children learn to value the contributions made by significant others to shape Britain as a multicultural society and the wider world.
Our History teaching focuses on educating children to investigate events and people from the past and in doing so develop the skills of enquiry, interpretation and problem solving.
Our Geography teaching focuses on teaching children about their own local environments and comparing these with other locations around the world. We ensure through planning that children develop and use geographical skills. Children are given opportunities to develop their map reading skills and compare a range of sources including aerial photographs, researching in books or on the internet and looking at globes.
There is also a strong focus on providing opportunities to enrich children’s experience of topics through regular visits to places of educational interest.
