We are passionate about music in St. Aloysius. Every week singing assemblies take place in KS1 and KS2, where the students learn and perform a huge range of songs. The children regularly have an input into the songs we choose. During these assemblies, children are also encouraged to demonstrate their vocal or instrumental skills, by performing short solo or small ensemble pieces.
A choir and several music groups are organised in school. Choir rehearsals take place on Thursdays from 3.30pm – 4.30pm. Students are invited to join from Years 3 – 6, following a short audition. Our choir takes part in several concerts throughout the year. These and many other school music events are listed below. The dates for these events, as well additional events, will be made available as soon as they are confirmed.
Private tuition is currently offered in school on piano and guitar. If your child would like to take up one of these instruments, or a different instrument, we will do our best to accommodate the request.
During music lessons, Year 5 students work with Camden Music Service tutors to learn the guitar, violin or flute as part of the ‘Wider Opportunities in Music’ scheme. The tutors work alongside teachers from our school to provide the children with this fantastic opportunity to learn a musical instrument for the year.
Weekly music lessons are taught in every class throughout the school. The children learn about music through playing musical games, singing, improvising, composing and performing. The children perform to other classes and the wider public. At St. Aloysius, we are lucky to have a have a wide range of instruments available for the children to play. They learn to use and understand musical notation, as well as listen and appraise high-quality music from a range of genres. All of their musical learning is built around the ‘Interrelated Dimensions of Music’: pulse, rhythm, pitch, tempo, dynamics, timbre, texture, structure and notation.
